Welcome to the Pruning House!

A skilled arborist has the ability to see a tree within a tree, holding that mental image clearly and firmly in the moment of ascent until the very last pruning cut. An oft-repeated standard, the origins of which escape us, goes: The greatest compliment you can give an arborist is to say 'it doesn't look any different! Take a look at the illustration for the  ANSI A300 pruning standards. Take a look at our “before” and “after” shots show the differences and improvements.

Do's and Don’ts

  • We do follow ANSI A300 standards.
  • We don't unnecessarily top or “over-thin” trees.
  • We don't use climbing spurs to climb large trees unless we're taking them down      (removals) or unless a safety or hazard issue precludes any other climbing method.
  • We do try to achieve a balanced tree canopy and restrict pruning of live wood to a      minimum, removing only wood that is:
       - diseased
       - defective (hazardous)-see Catastrophe House
       - duplicated
  • We don't arbitrarily "head back" or "chop back" lateral limbs without regard for form.
  • We do perform "end-weight" reduction thinning on limbs that have become over thick      with heavy foliage. These limbs will break in storms.
  • We try to locate defects in younger trees and eliminate them by corrective pruning.
  • We do listen to needs and try to accommodate those desires in the tree(s) where      possible:
       - more sunlight
       - reduce "wind sail" (resistance) in upper canopy
       - view
       - building, signage, traffic clearance
       - foliage litter reduction
       - maintenance of natural privacy screens and view enframement
  • We do rig and lower large limbs when necessary to prevent damage to your property.
  • We do protect your property during pruning operations and clean it up afterwards.
  • We do follow ANSI Z133 safety and work standards.
